“when you sweep up do you feel like you're doing a feminist performance?”
The collection of materials is vital in my work. I often sweep up dust during the collection process. In this instance i was sweeping in Walcot Chapel, cleaning up after previous exhibitors (dust underneath screw holes primarily).
In that moment i could only answer no, it is not something i had considered. However it is an interpretation that exists in the performative element of the collection.
If i'm totally honest i haven't spent all that much time considering the actions taken while collecting, instead focusing on actions while the items were being used. This is something i need to consider during the continuing collection and documentation of the works.
